Abstract

Storage is a promising option to provide energy system flexibility. Grid flexibility could enable higher renewable penetration and help to decarbonize the power sector (IEA, 2019). Within the EMF 34 which concerns the energy trade in North America, this paper analyses the role of storage in shaping the electricity generation in Mexico, Canada, and the USA. More specifically, the analysis will address the storage uptake in each country and its dependence on factors such as natural gas price, renewable costs, and storage costs.
